Getting Alongside Communities
People in Place works alongside nine communities in Scotland. Each with a dedicated Community Coordinator the programme centres on supporting local people to connect and work with one another - and wider partners - deliver community priorities and create positive change.
The programme also assists and enables locally-led actions by seeking out voices that are seldom heard and encouraging whole community participation.

In 2013 People In Place Programme worked with other funders such as Children In Need, Big Lottery Fund and Robertson Trust to find areas independent funders weren't reaching. From there, the programme identified local authority areas receiving proportionally less independent funding, facing multiple complex challenges.
Working with the Improvement Service, considering data including SIMD Indicators, 9 communities of 2,000 people or less were identified to collaborate with.
The People in Place programme makes a pledge to each community and local authority, to listen and build relationships with local people. The vision: to support local voices to influence and lead on change in their local area.

The development and initial delivery was supported by a Funder Collaborative (Corra Foundation, Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, JRF, Lankelly Chase & Tudor Trust) with an equal investment in the Getting Alongside Communities programme and a shared interest in a new approach to tackling deep-rooted social challenges.
Current delivery is funded by Corra, Lankelly Chase and Tudor Trust.
Within each of the nine communities, the Community Co-ordinators provide support to identify and secure funding and resources. This includes access to other independent funders, sponsorship and in-kind support.
