My Place Awards

The Scottish Civic Trust My Place Awards celebrate community-led built environment projects that have transformed their locality, as well as the hard work of the people behind those projects

The My Place Awards have two categories:

  1. Community-led Projects: recognises recent community-led built environment projects that have transformed their locality.
  2. Community Champions: celebrates individuals in communities across Scotland who have made a significant contribution to their local area through achieving positive change in the built environment, whether through built heritage, public spaces or access to these by communities.

My Place Awards 2024 Winner

The Corner, Darvel

The winner of the My Place Awards 2024 was The Corner, how a community came together to create a place to socialise, celebrate and have a blether.

The project would simply be known as “The Corner”, a nod to its strategic and historic significance in the town.

My Place Awards 2024 commended

Alloa Hub

Alloa Hub Located in the heart of the community provides a flexible space which would meet the needs of a multi-functional community-run organisation.

The conversion of the derelict toilet block into a new Community Hub to promote local identity and active travel.

My Place Awards 2024 : commended

Inchyra Park

The Inchyra Park project started with the creation of a 100-tree community memorial orchard. The idea was to bring a sense of ownership to the community.

The overarching priority was to realise the park’s history as central Scotland’s WW2 airport and create a physical and social environment to sustain this through community ownership, volunteering and social events 

My Place Awards 2024 : shortlist

Leith Community Croft Pavillion

The purpose of the Community Croft is to create a happy, healthy, leafy Leith and foster responsible global citizenship.

There was potential to benefit the community and consulted locals to nurture a strategic master plan for the repair and extension of the dilapidated 1914 former tennis pavilion on John’s Place.

My Place Awards 2024 : shortlist

An Laimhrig

Provides Eigg’s 115 residents with a new facility, combining social and business space for residents and visitors to enjoy.

The project transformed a small much-loved building in poor condition into a bright, spacious and energy-efficient community hub.

Craigie Street Pocket Park

A new high-quality pocket park in Craigie St along with streetscape enhancements in a number of other streets in the Albert Street District Shopping Centre.

The Craigie Street Pocket Park is a partnership between Sustrans, Scottish Water, the local community group The Stobswell Forum SCIO and Dundee City Council.
