Shaping Places for Wellbeing Place-Based Approach
The Shaping Places for Wellbeing Programme was jointly delivered by the Improvement Service and Public Health Scotland and supported anyone looking to take a place-based approach from 2022 until December 2024.
The work of the Programme was anchored in using the Place and Wellbeing Outcomes which were developed by the Place and Wellbeing Collaborative and have supported stakeholders to focus decision –making and implementation on what every place needs to enable those who live, work, and relax there to experience wellbeing. More information on the Outcomes and how to implement them into place-based work, can be found on the Planning for Place Programme website, in this briefing paper and in this introductory video. You can find the core set of data and the indicators linked to them in this spreadsheet too.
Between 2022 and June 2024, the Programme worked locally in seven towns across Scotland supporting councils, health boards and other stakeholders to develop the resources to take a place-based approach in their decisions and actions. Find out more about the work the Programme undertook in each Project Town here and how data was implemented into the Programme, including how learning highlighted the importance of having both quantitative and qualitative data sources to build a picture of inequalities, which helped to frame discussions and support decision making in the Programme’s Place and Wellbeing Assessments.
Irene Beautyman, Place and Wellbeing Partnership Lead at the Improvement Service and Public Health Scotland, has written a blog which outlines the future ambitions for the Programme and reflects on the Programme’s journey, including resources available to anyone looking to take a Shaping Places for Wellbeing place-based approach. This blog can be read here.
The Shaping Places for Wellbeing Programme concludes in December 2024, after a successful 3-year period. While the Programme will no longer be running, work will be continuing through the Planning for Place Programme .
