This umbrella review provides an overview of the evidence for links between the built and natural environment and health. The review identifies evidence-based, actionable planning principles, related to five distinct aspects of the built and natural environment, and contributes a novel practical approach to guide the planning and development of future built and natural environment interventions and policies.
