The Scottish Vacant and Derelict Land Survey (SVDLS) is a yearly data collection by the Scottish Government to find out how much vacant and derelict land there is, where it is and what state it is in. You can now view this data on a map to find out about sites near you.

The collected vacant and derelict land data, provided each year by Planning Authorities, is currently held in the SVDLS Register. It is available to any member of the public who may have an interest in re-developing this type of land, for example, a developer, a charity, a community, or an individual. To enquire about specific sites you can contact your local Planning Officer and contact details can be found on the register.

The vacant and derelict sites from the 2022 SVDLS have now been added to an interactive map - see below. It allows people to view individual sites and their characteristics, including satellite images of the site. This allows people to check a site near them, or visualise a site, to help them decide if it is suitable for re-development.

The 2023 SVDLS statistics were published on 28th June 2024. This information will be incorporated into the map in due course - at the same link below.
