Planning & Design
The impact of planning and design decisions goes much further than determining the type and style of environment we live in.
These decisions can be pivotal in influencing our carbon footprint, whether our high streets and local shops thrive, whether we feel connected to our community, whether the life chances of children are equal and positive, and can help to tackle deprivation and end cycles of systemic inequality.
The Place Standard
The Place Standard tool is a simple way for anyone to assess the quality of a place.
The tool provides a framework to structure conversations about place. It allows people to think about the physical elements of a place (for example its buildings, spaces, and transport links) as well as the social aspects (for example whether people feel they have a say in decision making).
A new 'Design' version of the Place Standard tool is also available. It provides a method through which the Place Standard can directly inform the emerging design of a development or a place.
